Miss Chuhiya Wall Art
Mihika Poddar is a visual artist from Nepal, currently based in New York City, where she earned her BFA from Parsons School of Design. Her interdisciplinary practice spans both two- and three-dimensional media—including oil and acrylic paint, charcoal, pen and ink, plaster, and mixed media—through which she constructs psychologically charged, symbol-rich worlds. Deeply rooted in memory and imagination, her work serves as a form of introspection and escapism, often returning to the sensibilities of her younger self through recurring motifs drawn from folklore, fairy tales, mythology, and the natural world.
Poddar’s work investigates the evolving relationship between fear and desire, tracing how early emotional constructs—particularly those shaped by childhood and cultural conditioning—mature into complex, untamed psychological forces. Influenced by cinematic horror, Baroque aesthetics, and psychoanalytic theory, she explores this duality through a surrealist lens, weaving together themes of attraction and unease, inhibition and abandon. Her use of dramatic complementary and split-complementary color schemes echoes these tensions, revealing the push and pull between the conscious and unconscious, the id and ego, control and surrender.
Blurring the boundary between the intimate and the theatrical, Poddar’s practice offers immersive visual narratives that unfold like psychological dreamscapes—spaces where fear transforms into revelation, and where myth, memory, and fantasy collide in vibrant, emotionally charged compositions.
